SUCCESS AT LAKE ROGERS!
On 29 June 2007, the first release of Lixadmontia franki was made at Lake Rogers Park in Hillsborough County; 27 females and 29 males were released.
On 7 August 2007, sentinel pineapple tops (pinapple tops with weevil larvae placed inside) were placed at the release site.
On 21 August 2007, the sentinel pineapple tops were retrieved from the field, returned to the laboratory at the Entomology and Nematology Department at the University of Florida, where they were placed in cages and watched for fly emergence.
On 30 August, a fly was found in the cage; upon examination, it proved to be a newly emerged L. franki fly.
This fly is the grandchild of one of the flies released on 29 June 2007, indicating that L. franki can survive and reproduce in south Florida.
